For the first time, the value of property held by Brazilians in Portugal has overtaken what they hold in the United States. According to Central Bank of Brazil data, the amount held in Portugal stood at around $1.45 billion in December 2024 — 18.7% of all Brazilian property investment abroad — against $1.21 billion in the US (15.7% of the total).
The reversal is understood to have taken place after 2022, in the post-pandemic period, when the flow of Brazilian citizens to Portugal picked up new momentum. This investment has increasingly focused on premium assets: in 2025, Brazilian buyers accounted for €65.8 million in Portugal's high-end segment.
