In a world shaped by successive crises — the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, instability in the Middle East — stability has become a genuine economic asset. And Portugal, ranked 7th on the Global Peace Index, is well placed to capitalise on it. That is the thesis put forward by Rafael Ascenso, Founder and Partner at Porta da Frente Christie's, in an opinion piece for Executive Digest.
Rafael Ascenso recalls that, after the war in Ukraine began, a flow of families seeking safe destinations had a direct impact on the premium rental market — and notes that growing instability elsewhere, including in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, tends to reinforce Portugal's relative attractiveness. He also highlights the sustained growth in demand from US citizens in recent years, and concludes that social stability and safety should become a national priority.
